Location: Maine Art Gallery Class Description: Instructor will expose students to the approach he has taken to assembling remnants of wooden furniture and woodworkers castaways that have been altered by demolition prior to being transferred for recycling. Andre Benoit will demonstrate how an isolated unusual piece of wood can be the most important feature and show examples of how the play of light on the three-dimensional structure can create shadowing. He will focus on depth, juxtaposition, ambiguity and asymmetry to create movement in the sculpture. He will show how to work with weathered patina. About Andre Benoit: I work broadly in the subject matter that I represent, defined both by the configuration of the wood that lies before me and how I imagine it's potential if married with other pieces that will support the impression I wish to achieve. On a given day my perspective maybe different from the day before based on interim subliminal visual exposures of influence that subsequently become conceptualized.I am presenting for consideration a group of assemblages focusing on the human form as it can be depicted recognizing the constraints inherent with inventory of what will serve as component pieces available to work with .
